Quest for Whimsy is an album born out of adolescent suburbia. What started out as a Garage Punk initiative, slowly morphed into what The Pomelos like to call “Living Room Punk”. Where the usual Garage Punk genre introduces crudeness and in your face attitude, Living Room Punk replaces this with a more nuanced approach. Mixing a blend of distortion, psychedelia, punk, and of course some whimsical humor, this album features an eclectic source of sounds and themes. From the dry humor of the first track “Doin’ Squats”, to the psychedelic introspection of “Twenty Feet Tall”, or the high octane punk “I Love My Mom”, you are bound to find something to love on each corner of this album. Recorded all in the living room of the drummer’s house, the DIY attitude of the album comes through loud and clear. Quest for Whimsy is anything but polished and sterile, and the Pomelos flaunt that aspect with confidence.
